There are two campgrounds in Zion National Park, South and Watchman Campgrounds. South is open year round, Watchman is open 15 Mar to 01 Nov, both campgrounds operate on a first come first serve basis.

Lava Point Campground

Details
A first come, first serve primative campground with only 6 sites and no water. Lava Point is about 1 hour from main canyon of park. Closed in Winter.
South Campground - Is located .5 mile north of Springdale on the main park road. Sites have fire pits, picnic tables, water. There are central bathrooms with flush toilets and a central dump station. Visitors must bring all their own firewood as collecting wood in the park is Prohibited. There are no RV hookups.
Watchman Campground - Is located .4 mile north of Springdale and just south of South campground. Sites have fire pits, picnic tables, water. There are central bathrooms with flush toilets and a central dump station. Visitors must bring all their own firewood as collecting wood in the park is Prohibited. There are no RV hookups.

During May through Sep - the campgrounds fill by 11:00 am.
Camping is limited to 14 days and is permitted only in designated sites or in the back country.
Some sites are set aside for people with disabilities.
All amenities and service are available at Springdale.
Reservations may be made for groups of 9 to 40 individuals. A deposit is required of 50% of the group fee, which is $ 3.00 per person. Sites have picnic tables, fire pit, water and flush toilets. For reservations, write to:

Zion's backcountry is a primitive area and managed according to regulations that protect its wilderness values. Backcountry camping is allowed on a limited basis and a backcountry permit is required. Permits cost $ 5.00 per person per night. Group size is limited to 12 persons for both day and night use. Campfires are not permitted in the back country.
Lava Point Primitive Campground: is usually open from May to Oct. There are fire pits, picnic tables and pit toilets. No water is available. No fee is charged. There are six (6) sites.
How to Obtain a Permit: Permits are issued at the visitors center.
Fire: Campfires are only permitted in campsite fire pits. Charcoal or camp stoves are recommended for cooking. Camp stoves are required for backcountry camping.
Garbage / Waste: Everything you carry in, including garbage and if possible, waste. Toilet paper will not decompose in this dry climate and must be carried out. Never burn or bury it! The burning of toilet paper can cause serious brush fires in the desert.
Water: Water sources are unreliable and are not maintained or tested for bacterial contamination or heavy metals. We recommend that each person carry at least one gallon of water from an approved drinking source for each day they are in the backcountry.
Latest Information: Stop at the visitor center and talk with a ranger before making any overnight trip into the backcountry. Maps and other information concerning trials, campsites, water availability and backcountry regulations are available at the visitor center.
